oldsmobile engine wont turn over?

I have a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue, which is in good condition. It runs well on a normal basis, but occasionally, it won't start. I turn the key, and all the dashboard lights and blower, etc. come on, but the engine won't turn over. It doesn't even make a noise.
Does anyone know what the cause of this could be, and if there is anything I can do about it without having to take it to a mechanic?

go to advance or other pts store and get free test of battery/starter .. clean battery termanals if it keeps happening replace starter.
