Can anyone help me figure out what happened? I was driving my truck and it just died like it was out of gas..It had gas and I put in more and primed the carburator..it started for 1 second and then died. There was no warning that pump or filter was about to go. It had been running fine. it has 4.3 fuel injection engine. I cannot afford it if it is going to be something high priced to fix it. so I would like to know before I take it to the mechanic..Any help will be appreciated.

when you turn the key to the run position can you hear the fuel pump it will make a high pitch sound if you don't hear this noise it probably needs a fuel pump it is inside the fuel tank if no noise heard try hitting the bottom of the fuel tank with a rubber mallet it may let the fuel pump free up and run for a few minutes the you will know if it is the fuel pump

i have a 95 GMC sonoma and i had a similar problem. it could be your alternator or depending on your miles perhaps your electric fuel pump...either way it may be slightly pricey. but you can talk to your car care provider they may be able to set you up on a payment system so you wont be stranded.

More than likely, the electric fuel pump. You should hear the pump whine for a few seconds when you turn the key on and off. I would start with the relays before removing the pump, which is in the tank.
