How do you reprogramming Saab 2001 key after changing battery to lock/unlock/trunk?

I recently bought a used Saab 2001. It came with two keys. One key needed a new battery. I bought and replaced batteries in both keys with Renata batteries 1632 - 3V lithium because I could not find what the owners manual recommended, Panasonic 1632 - 3V lithium. The manual says to press the unlock button 4 times consecutively after changing the battery to get the unlock/lock/trunk features to work on the key again. I have tried this and it does not work. I called the local Saab dealer and he said to bring it in and I needed an appointment. Sounded expensive to me. Please advise or help. Thanks in advance for all those who respond.
