changing air con unit on a 2.4jtd fiat marea weekend?

The part is different from all other models and very expensive.
Would I have problems or damage anything if i was to put a different model unit on the car if the bolts lined up and belt was in correct place?

apparently what I need is a DENSO 7SB16 but I am looking at £400 for a new one at least!
