I recently purchased a used 2001 Toyota Corolla with 89,000 miles. 2,000 miles later the check engine light comes on. I am now told that the catelytic converter needs to be replaced, along with the O2 sensors and the pipe gasket assembly, at a cost of $2,200. Two different dealers have told me that this is a typical problem with this model, yet there is no mention of this in any of the reviews of this vehicle. Is this a common problem and if so, why hasn't it been widely disclosed? It makes this car a questionable purchase.
