At the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, Kia, a brand known for small affordable cars, will unveil its latest creation. What is most interesting is this concept isn’t a small car but rather a full size, coupe-like sedan. Billed as being a four door sports sedan, the concept car’s powertrain is still shrouded in mystery but Kia has confirmed that this car will be rear wheel drive. Although they haven’t admitted it, this is an obvious attempt to steal buyers away from the other Korean sports sedan, the Hyundai Genesis.
In a press release issued by the company, Peter Schreyer, Kia Motors Chief Design Officer, said, “I believe this car is a strong statement from Kia: we are ready to fast forward to an all new chapter.” Besides the slight resemblance to the Optima with the corporate grille, the RWD Concept is easily one of the most sleak Kias shown off in a long time. The aggressive front bumper with huge air inlets work well with the stream-line headlamps. The side and rear of the car are so smooth that it gives off the impression of being one simple piece.
Word is still out as to what lies underneath the hood of the next generation of Kias, but there is a decent chance it might house eight cylinders. Whatever it is, if the Kia RWD Concept finds its way into production, the Hyundai Genesis Sedan will have another competitor.
