Volkswagen will reveal its Golf R at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The Golf R will have 290 horsepower, up 34 from the previous model.
The R model will also have all-wheel drive, unique 18-inch alloy wheels, different bumpers, side skirts, LED lights, and a two-branch exhaust system with four chrome tips, Los Angeles Times reported.
The R model will come with two transmission choices: a six-speed manual and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic. The automatic version will reach 62 mph in 4.9 seconds, compared with 5.3 seconds for the R with a manual.
The automaker has yet to announce pricing, but the R model R price is expected to in the neighborhood of $35,000, the newspaper said.
