Well this is an interesting twist in the ever growing and changing mess that is the Volkswagen emissions scandal. Reuters is citing a report from German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, that the EPA has asked VW to make a substantial investment in EV technology in the US to help make up for its environmental destruction caused by its cheating diesel emissions systems. The proposed changes include a new EV line for the companies Chattanooga, TN plant, as well as a push to enhance and build out EV charging infrastructure.
It has been six months since the scandal first broke headlines here in the States, and VW has still failed to come up with a plan of action for its nearly 600,000 affected cars. More electric cars in the US, coupled with more jobs that come with building those cars and the charging stations would go a long way to making the people of the US happy, but really I think that most of us just want to see some sort of conclusion. As an affected owner myself, constantly sitting in limbo waiting to hear news is the most frustrating part of the entire experience.
