The Oculus Rift has finally reached production ready status and is on its way out to consumers. This marks a bold new age for interactive gaming, and I think it marks the next step in immersive simulation racers. I saw this video recently of someone playing through Project CARS with an Oculus headset, and it looks insane. Watching all the subtle head movements as the player eyes cars he is passing, looks to the apex of turns and tries to avoid competitors.

We already use three monitor setups to try and provide players with a wider field of view that allows them to look around their car more easily and fluidly. Using a VR headset just takes that idea to the next level.

There is already a pretty decent list of games I found that have support for the Oculus Rift, and it includes the “big three” of sim racing right now; Project CARS, Assetto Corsa, and iRacing. I’ve yet to experience this kind of gaming for myself, but this video alone makes me want to try it. We are witnessing the dawn of a new age my friends.
