Volvo Car Corporation announced a joint partnership with Siemens Industry to technology behind electric vehicles, including the upcoming Volvo C30 Electric. The two companies want to focus on the drive technology as well as the power electrics and charging stations. They are currently fitting prototype Siemens electric motors into C30 Electrics and will begin track and real-world testing by the end of the year.

“We are very happy to have Siemens as a partner. Their world-leading knowledge and experience will bring the technology in our electric cars up to an entirely new level,” says Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO of Volvo Car Corporation.

Beginning in late 2012, Volvo will deliver a test series of 200 cars for Siemens to further test in their fleet. This gives the companies the ability to jointly advance their own technologies faster than possible alone and make sure the upcoming Volvo EVs will become better and better. A small amount of C30 Electrics will go into production later this year followed the V60 Plug-in Hybrid.

“Cooperation with Volvo is an important milestone in the development of top-quality components and systems for electric cars subsequently intended for series production,” says Siegfried Russwurm, Siemens Board member and CEO of the Siemens Industry Sector.
