When 2012 hits, Volvo will begin selling its all-new V60 Plug-in Hybrid. This ultra low emissions vehicle has been developed by Vattenfall AB and Volvo and their partnership company: V2 Plug-in-Hybrid Vehicle Partnership HB. With half the C02 emissions as the standard V60, the Plug-in uses a Diesel engine coupled with an electric motor assist to offer high driving range with high fuel economy. The car will be able to travel up to 50 kilometers on electric power alone with a total driving range of 1200 kilometers.
“No industry or organisation can tackle the climate challenge all by itself. It is our mission to develop carbon dioxide-lean cars, but it is the society that is responsible for creating a sustainable future. This project shows how cooperation between experts in different areas brings us closer to the transition from individually carbon dioxide-lean products to a climate-smart lifestyle,” said Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO of Volvo Car Corporation. The V60 Plug-in can be charged using any household outlet. Full charging time is about five hours.
