Volkswagen announced that it will introduce a new diesel engine for its car lineup in North America starting in the second half of 2014, reports Detroit Free Press.

The newest and most fuel-efficient diesel engine will debut on the 2015 Golf, Jetta, Passat and Beetle, according to the news report.

The new turbocharged engine will eventually replace all the 2.0-liter TDI Clean Diesel engines in VW and Audi TDI diesel models, said Oliver Schmidt, general manager of the Energy and Environmental Office for Volkswagen Group of America.

The new four-cylinder, direct-injection engine makes 150 horsepower, which is 10 more than the engine it replaces and it also has fewer emissions.
