The Passat normally doesn’t conjure up thoughts of carving canyons or taming the twisty sections of a back road, but Volkswagen hopes to change your impression of the Passat’s potential.
Enter the 2013 Volkswagen Passat Performance Concept. This four-door is powered by a smaller displacement version of the current 2.0-liter inline-four – a 1.8-liter that makes 250 horsepower and is attached to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Other special bits include carbon pieces throughout the cabin and carbon exterior mirror caps, 19-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lamps, and some very interesting-looking Bi-Xenon headlights.
Making 80 hp over the base 2.5-liter inline-five cylinder normally found in the Passat and sporting a lowered suspension, the Passat Performance Concept shows that Volkswagen is willing to extend performance through their entire lineup. We can only hope there’s more to see.
