The well-known and widely used ZF automatic transmissions come in a variety of speeds and can be found in plenty of high-end vehicles. Designed to deal with the power and weight of muscular luxury rides, the ZF can easily be considered a work of mechanical art. Currently working is the latest ZF eight speed auto and it soon will be found in an iconic, do-it-all vehicle: the Range Rover.
A source at Car&Driver revealed that future U.S. market Land Rover vehicles, including the Range Rover Sport will use the new eight speed ZF. This might not happen until the 2013 model year, but as of now a few euro-spec diesel Rovers are being fitted with the transmission. The dial gear selector that can be found in Jaguars will also be found inside future Land Rovers.
With Land Rover now using the eight speed, the ZF transmission will be very well used as it can currently be found in Audis, BMWs and Bentleys. Chrysler also is working towards adding the eight speed to slew of its 2012 model year vehicles.
