It is official: the 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid is here. Becoming increasingly available across the U.S. is the latest generation of one of Toyota’s brightest stars that blends high efficiency with a spacious body. With a starting MSRP of $25,900 for the LE trim, the Camry Hybrid is also one of the least expensive offerings in its segment and thousands more than a thousand dollars less than the previous model year. Highlighting the 2012 is its fuel economy which is higher than before. The EPA rates average highway economy at 39 mpg while in the city, the car should average 43 mpg.
A full-blown gas/electric powertrain can be found under the hood of the new car. Combining an all-new 2.5 liter inline four cylinder with Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive, the Camry Hybrid puts down a maximum 200 horsepower. The 2012’s lighter weight also means faster acceleration as 60 mph can be found in 7.6 seconds. At first, two trim levels will be offered: the LE and XLE. Priced at $27,400, the XLE includes a 6.1 inch touch screen media and vehicle display, navigation, Bluetooth streaming and 17 inch wheels. Available at an extra cost are features such as Toyota’s Entune media controller, larger 7 inch touch screen, leather and heated seats, back up camera and blind spot monitor.
