Toyota Motor North America will be issuing a voluntary recall on certain Camry and Venza models due to the same problem. A manufacturing concern centered around the vehicle’s brake lights is to blame and could result in a system failure. When pieced together, the silicone grease used to seal the contact-type stop lamp switch may have come into contact with the switch itself enough to result in resistance. If this happens, a myriad of problems could transpire such as warning lamps illuminating, a no start condition occurring, the shifter not being able to come out of park and the brake lights not working.

The recall will begin early April of this year. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 2009 model year Camry and 2009 through 2011 model year Venza cars are being affected. If a sedan was manufactured between July 1, 2008 through February 28, 2009 then it could be at risk while the crossover/station wagon models being recalled were built from October 20, 2008 through January 4, 2011. At this point, approximately 186,798 total Toyotas are under investigation. In order to remedy the problem, certified dealers will replace the stop lamp switch at no extra charge to owners.
