A very select group of Toyota Tundra pickup trucks are being recalled for a failing to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110: tire selection and rims. The label on the inside door panel of the trucks that shows the proper load carrying capacity was printed inaccurately. Thus, the vehicles cargo capacity is misrepresented and there is a risk of over filling a Tundra. If this were to occur, the truck’s tires could fail.
As of yet, only 502 Tundras are being recalled. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), model years affected are 2011s built and sold for the Gulf of the United States. Tundra owners in the area can contact Gulf States Toyota at any time to determine if their trucks are at risk. Toyota will start the official recall during February 2012 and will give drivers the option of having a corrected tag mailed to them or allow a certified dealer to install the new ones at no extra charge.
