A select group of Sienna minivans are being recalled by Toyota Motor Company. Approximately 210,000 vans have failed to comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110. The requirement states the guidelines for a vehicle’s tire selection, rims and weight capacity. On certain 2011 and 2012 model year Siennas, the inner door placard do not display the correct vehicle capacity weight and the rated load for the combination of cargo and occupants is simply wrong.
This issue may seem simply, but could easily lead to a serious problem. If a van is overloaded, the tires will not be able to handle the load and a blowout would more than likely occur. To remedy the issue, Toyota will mail out the corrected placard to owners as well as a completely revised owners manual. The new information will be sent to Sienna drivers free of charge but the automaker has yet to lay out an official schedule. Until that happens, drivers are encouraged to contact Toyota directly.
