Toyota announced yesterday two separate voluntary safety recalls for certain Corolla, Matrix, and Lexus IS sedans. These recalls affect approximately 752,000 Corolla and Matrix vehicles and 207,000 Lexus IS sedans.
Corolla and Matrix models are affected by possible inadvertent deployment of the front airbags and seatbelt pretensioners due to a faulty circuit within the control module for the supplemental restraint system. The circuit is susceptible to internal shorting which can lead to the unit overheating and causing unintended deployment of the airbags and possibly the seatbelt pretensioners.
In a separate recall notice, certain Lexus IS vehicles may have left the factory with improperly tightened wiper arm nuts. If movement of the wipers becomes hindered by heavy snow or other external loads, the wipers may become inoperative.
Specifically, the recall involves 2003 and 2004 Toyota Corolla and Toyota Matrix vehicles and 2006 through early 2012 Lexus IS models. Owners can visit their local dealership to have repairs done free of charge. Owners can also check for recalls on their specific vehicle using their vehicle’s VIN by visiting www.toyota.com/recall or www.lexus.com/recall.
