There has been a small rumor going around the automotive industry that Toyota’s planned fully electric, RAV4 EV would only be available to the fleet market. Toyota Motor Company has decided to set the record straight themselves by issuing a public statement: the 2012 RAV4 EV will be available to the general public. The recent demand for alternative fuel optioned vehicles is beginning to create alternatives to the alternative: the gas/electric hybrid. Manufactures across the globe are scrambling to produce mass vehicles that are completely void of a fossil fuel burning engine. This is a huge factor in Toyota releasing the RAV4 EV to the public.

Toyota themselves anticipate a large demand electric battery-powered vehicles as an EV version of the super-mini Scion iQ is also in the works for 2012. With the Scion and the RAV4 EV, Toyota will be the only manufacture to offer two electric vehicles for the 2012 model year. But where the RAV4 will be marketed to the general public, the Scion (for the time being) will only be available as a fleet vehicle.
