Nissan North America will be issuing a voluntary recall on certain Quest minivans. The reason stems from an issue with the vehicle’s fuel system and the electronic control unit that monitors it. Because of a programming error, the fuel pump control module may not have the ability to supply the engine with the proper amount of fuel during certain driving conditions. If the van has a tank with a quarter or less amount of fuel, the pump will not be able to compensate, thus causing the 3.5 liter V6 to lose power and or stall completely. This could be especially apparent while driving on a decline, at low speeds or just idling.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Nissan is currently investigating 25,531 minivans for the issue. Potentially affected Quests are either 2011 0r 2012 model years manufactured from July 29, 2010 through February 21, 2012. The recall is expected to begin during mid March of this year. Owners will be instructed to take their vans to certified dealers so that the fuel pump control module can be inspected and if needed, replaced. This remedy will take place at no extra cost to drivers.
