At this point in time, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) have received eight reports regarding the Jeep Wrangler and fires. The complaints that were made all concerned 2010 model year SUVs and all fires originated from the same area. With the blazes occurring from under the engine compartment, the Office of Defects Investigations will be working with the Wrangler’s parents, Chrysler LLC, to inspect the engine and its cooling system as well as the automatic transmission.
Since the investigation only began a few days ago, it is still in the “open” phase. Depending on what information is brought back, a full-blown recall could ensue. Right now, the NHTSA is in the middle of a Preliminary Evaluation on the Wranglers.
