American Honda Motor Company is issuing a voluntary recall on certain Ridgeline half truck half SUV models. The problem stems from simple misinformation as the vehicles fail to comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110: Tire Selection and Rims for Motor Vehicle. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the information listed on the Honda’s spare tire may not match the specs written out on the tire placard located in the door panel. This may sound innocent, but could lead to disaster if the spare tire were to be over or under inflated.
As of now, approximately 206 Ridgelines are being investigated. The recall is covering both 2011 and 2012 model year trucks manufactured from August 25 through November 29, 2011. Honda will begin notifying owners on or around January 31, 2012. To remedy the issue, certified dealers will inspect the spare tire and either replace it and its entire assembly or swap out the information placard for a corrected one. The fix will take place at no extra cost to drivers.
