It’s back. After disappearing from the Honda roster for the past year, there’s a brand new hybrid Accord for model year 2017, and the wait looks to be worth it.
Building on the ninth generation Accord platform, Honda took a year off to refine their new hybrid system, which consists of a 2.0 liter four cylinder and a pair of electric motors. All-in-all they give the Accord Hybrid a combined mpg of almost 50 while still providing total horsepower of 212. Not bad for a family sedan.
Following in the footsteps of many other manufacturers, the Accord Hybrid comes standard with a large collection of driver aids – which Honda calls Honda Sensing – such as lane keeping assist, forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control.
Pricing starts just south of $30,000 for the base model Hybrid. Bump your spec up to a Touring package and you’ll pay about $36k, not much more than a standard ’16 Accord Touring. With that additional scratch you’ll get a raft of niceties including, but not limited to, heated leather seats (including the rear seats), parking sensors, rain sensing windshield wipers and automatic high beams.
All of this is wrapped in the substantially more attractive, updated bodywork found on the 2016 Accords, with Hybrid-specific touches like a unique aluminum hood, blue light accents and special wheels.
If you want one you don’t have to wait. The ’17 Accord Hybrid is already available at your local dealer.
