When putting together certain Ford Focus compacts, one small but important piece of the puzzle may not have made its way out of the factory. Apart of the wiring harness is a seal that connects to the passenger side windshield wiper motor. Ford Motor Company is under the belief that this item may not have been installed and thus, could damage the circuit flowing to the wiper. If an excess of water and or contaminants makes it into the connector, the passenger side device would fail to work.
In order to prevent any injury due to poor visibility, Ford will be issuing a voluntary recall on the Focus. Affected cars are 2012 model years manufactured from August 1, 2010 through October 18, 2011. So far, approximately 140,310 vehicles are at risk and owners should receive their notification on or around May 21 of this year. In order to remedy the issue, certified dealers will inspect the passenger side windshield wiper for damages. Technicians will clean and properly seal the motor connector and if the accumulation is too severe and or the device is no longer working, a replacement will be installed. This will take place at no extra cost to owners.
