They may be some of the most impressive and awe-inspiring supercars available today, but the Ferrari 458 and California are not immune to the recall. Due to an issue with the cars’ direct injected V8 engines, a very select grouping of North American models will soon be making a trip to the dealership. So far, approximately 74 Ferraris are being investigated and owners should expect a recall notice by the end of the month of May.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue lies within the main force of V8: its crankshaft. Both the 2012 California’s 4.2 liter and 2011 through 2012 458’s 4.5 liter dual cam units may not have had their cranks machined to specification. If the problem presents itself, the supercar’s heart could seize making the car inoperable. The last thing the owner of a triple digit soul cleanser wants is for their engine to quit so Ferrari will be giving options. Both cars can have their mills either repaired or fully replaced and which ever option a onwer decides upon, the remedy will take place at no extra cost to them.
