Each year, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) releases its Fuel Economy Guide. Inside is a compilation of the fuel economy estimates of all cars and light trucks as well as driving ranges, alternative fuel source information, tips for improving fuel economy and leaders in mileage. For the 2012 model year edition of the annual guide, the Mitsubishi i-MiEV (i) has rolled away with the top spot as a fuel economy leader. The fully electric and zero emissions vehicle has the miles per gallon equivalent of being able to travel up to 126 miles on the highway and 99 in the city. That is a EPA-rated 112 mpg combined.

“We are very pleased to see that the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy have rated the 2012 Mitsubishi i as the top fuel economy leader in its annual Fuel Economy Guide,” said Yoichi Yokozawa, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. “With 17,000 i-MiEV-based units produced for various international markets, we look forward to providing North American consumers with an exceptionally well-engineered electric vehicle that has proven itself to be reliable, safe, efficient and very affordable in overall price and cost of operation.”
