When the 2012 model year hits, the midsize Chevrolet Equinox crossover will get a unique trick called MyLink. The in-car wireless media control system allows smartphones to be integrated into the vehicle’s entertainment center. Online services such as Pandora internet radio, Stitcher SmartRadio as well as all the comfort of OnStar will make up MyLink. Voice activation, Bluetooth and or a seven inch touchscreen will be the control for the system which will also include XM radio, USB ports and auxiliary play back.
“We have carefully selected technologies that our customers will find valuable and are able to offer them at very attractive prices,” said Russ Clark, director, Chevrolet marketing. “Since this generation went on sale in mid-2009 we have sold every Equinox we can build, but we aren’t counting on that momentum to carry us.” Accompanying MyLink will be an optional crash-avoidance system designed to warn drivers of hazards such as unsignaled lane changes. If the Equinox gets too close to another lane and or vehicle, a warning chime will emit to alert the driver. When the system is turned on, the brakes will be pre-charged and ready to fire if it detects a fast-approaching crash.
