Subaru’s XV will be the next version of the heroic, Impreza Outback Spot but might not be called just that. Riding on the multi-linked rear end compact with raised suspension, bulged fenders and a utilitarian hatchback presence, the XV will be fairly standard Subaru territory. Under the hood will be either one of the company’s latest Boxer flat four cylinders: the 1.6 or 2.0 liter FB. Subaru has confirmed the Euro spec model will get three transmission choices: a five and six speed manual or CVT automatic. And of course, symmetrical all wheel drive is standard making the Subaru XV an actual Subaru.

According to an article by Car & Driver, Subaru of America has yet to make their mind up on the car’s name. A spokesperson for the company mentioned that an official badge has yet to be decided. This means that there is a good chance that the Outback Sport name will be dropped. More than likely this will be done to exterminate any confusion with the car’s larger brother, the standard Outback. Until final word is released, we will just have to wait and see.
