When the Toyobaru coupes, the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ were developed, sales targets were not very high. As it stands, Subaru was only allotted 500 units per month for the entire country, and Subaru that was more than enough. It turns out that the kids in Japan were very wrong, and our appetite for affordable RWD sport coupes has made this little car a bit of a commodity.

Subaru of America COO Tom Doll explains the problem, “We are selling all the BRZs we can get. We have been sold out of the car since it was introduced.”

After months of seeing customers frustrated of waiting, Subaru of America has been granted extra cars. There should be an influx of 2,000 extra models over the next 4 months, helping to alleviate the trouble. There is no word if this increased allotment of cars will be a permanent increase, or just merely a measure to reduce pressure on dealers.

Subaru also appears to be having an issue keeping the new XV Crosstrek in stock, and has requested a larger allotment of those as well. Doesn’t seem like a terrible problem for an automaker to have if you ask us.
