MONTEREY: The reincarnated Shelby Series 2 sports car, complete with restyled front and rear bumpers and other improvements, is expected to make its public debut in mid-August at the 2006 Concorso Italiano here.
Even before the first of the cars rolls off the assembly line this weekend in Las Vegas, the limited-edition Series 2 appears to be virtually sold out, with all but a handful of the $220,000 two-seaters already spoken for, according to a source familiar with the Series 2 program.

The Cobra-like Series 2 is the successor to the ultrafast Series 1, which employed a carbon-fiber shell on an aluminum honeycomb frame. Under the hood, a supercharged Oldsmobile DOHC 4.0-liter V8 packed more than 400 horsepower.
The Series 2 will be in heady company at its coming-out party. This year's Concorso Italiano marks the 35th anniversary of Pantera's entry into North America. Designer Tom Tjaarda and Santiago DeTomaso are among the invited guests.
