Toyota has announced that it will be recalling more than 11,000 Scion iQ models. The recall affects 2012 and 2013 models.

The recall is for faulty front passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) weight sensor cables. The cables have been routed in the seat tracks, and can be damaged by sliding the seat forward and backwards. These cables affect the airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners. Needless to say, major injury could be caused if these are not working properly.

Toyota has said that it will begin owner notification in December. Per usual, a trip to dealer will result in a free fix. For those interested, Toyota estimates the work time to be about one hour as long as your dealer is not swamped with work.
