For 2012, the Audi R8 supercar will be available in even more flavors as the German manufacture is offering another variant. Based mechanically on the 5.2 FSI quattro, the 2012 R8 GT Spyder is a light weight convertible version of the limited production, hard-edge GT hardtop that debuted not too long ago.
The mechanical workings for the GT Spyder are Audi’s best: a direct injected 5.2 liter V10 with a dry sump oil system and 560 horsepower. Modifications have been done to the body by way of carbon fiber panels that add up to a total weight savings of 85 kilograms (187.39 lbs) compared to the standard 5.2 FSI quattro spyder. The lighter weight and massive horsepower figure account for a 0-60 mph time of 3.8 seconds thanks in part to the GT Spyder’s transmission. An automated six speed “R tronic” with quattro all wheel drive allows the GT Spyder to launch with virtually no drama.
Expect the limited engagement 2012 R8 GT Spyder to go on sale in Germany with a price tag of 207,800 euros.
