The Porsche Mission E Concept has just been given the greenlight for production, starting a new chapter in the history of Porsche. The all-electric supercar was seen as design study that may have previewed the next 911 or Panamera, but it seems that Porsche is pushing full into EV territory to produce a car that will make the Tesla Model S seem antiquated and slow.
The announcement came today along with a release stating that Porsche was investing one-billion Euros into the project, creating more than 1,000 jobs. Porsche’s parent company Volkswagen may be cutting costs and projects in the wake of its diesel scandal, but it redirecting funds into electric car development, and Porsche seems to be on the receiving end of that change in direction.
Porsche is not new to the electrification game, with plug-in hybrid models across the lineup, and the hybrid 919 racecar, the engineers in Stuttgart are already well versed in batteries and electric motors.
Expect this new car to be on sale before 2020.
