Nissan clearly understands that in the late 1960s, they created a cult. The church of Z has been growing with each generation change and now that a revised version has been announced for 2013, a new factory-backed project will soon be underway. Where this one differs from the rest is in how it will be pieced together as Nissan is letting Z Car faithfuls put their two-cents in to create Project 370Z.
“Car companies build project vehicles all the time, but we thought it’d be interesting to harness the power of social media to reach out to Z enthusiasts – the people who are doing this to their own cars everyday,” said Jon Brancheau, vice president of Nissan Marketing. The project will be a one-off 370Z that will be modified using aftermarket parts chosen by the public via Nissan Performance’s facebook page. The upgrades will be divided into categories such as power, handling/brakes, interior and exterior. Nissan will post up potential parts and or accessories and the ones that get the most likes will find their way on to Project 370Z. That means that it is up to Z Car fanatics to install either a supercharger or turbocharger kit to the 3.7 liter VQ V6.
“Together we’ll create a vehicle that expands on the already outstanding performance and style of the Nissan 370Z with a balance of street and track ready modifications. Then we’ll share the finished project at upcoming Z car enthusiast gatherings around the country,” said Brancheau. Voting for the parts is currently open. When Project 370Z is complete, it will be taken around the nation for some serious testing and abuse. It will see its first set of apexes in the Great Smoky Mountains at the annual ZDayZ event held at Deals Gap. Nestled in between North Carolina and Tennessee are 318 corners in just 11 miles otherwise known as the “Tail of The Dragon”. Whatever form Project 370Z takes, it will require some well placed modifications if it plans on running head-to-head with the fastest Z Cars in the nation.
