For the past few months, Nissan has seen a very positive increase in sales and market share. With zero intention of slowing down, the automaker has committed to an overall expansion of their North American market and thus, new facilities are in store for the not too distant future. Next on the list will be an all-new assembly plant located in the heart of Aguascalientes, Mexico. Complementing the already existing Mexican plants, the new facility is expected to begin working duty late in 2013 and will be made due to a $2 billion investment.
“Mexico is a key engine for Nissan’s growth in the Americas,” said Carlos Ghosn, chairman and CEO of Nissan. The initial phase for the plant is to supplement the production of Nissan’s “B” platform vehicles. Annual production will start out at a steady 175,000 units. In order to achieve this goal, 3,000 direct jobs will be created to bring the total Nissan Mexico workforce up to nearly 13,500. “Together with our new plant in Brazil, this new manufacturing facility in Aguascalientes is an important pillar in our strategy to ensure that Nissan has the capacity it needs to increase sales volume and market share across the Americas.”
