A partnership has developed with Nissan North America and SunPower Corp. in order to push the awareness of solar power for electric vehicle charging. As the Nissan LEAF becomes global, sales of the car have been growing faster each and every day. SunPower, a leading manufacture for solar panels in the U.S., offers residential power stations that can both charge a Nissan LEAF and or any other EV, but can also greatly reduce a person’s overall carbon footprint. Online content such as video tutorials and free home solar install assessments are being offered by the two companies. Also available are details about how solar power is converted into energy that the LEAF can then use.
“Nissan LEAF owners are conscientious about their energy use, and it makes sense for them to understand how they can offset the power that their all-electric LEAF requires with clean, renewable solar power generated from their own rooftop,” said Brendan Jones, director for Nissan LEAF marketing and sales strategy. Jones went on to say that a 2.5-kilowatt SunPower rooftop solar system can have the ability to offset about 10,000 miles of LEAF operation in a year.
“power my own 100 percent electric Nissan LEAF with a SunPower system, eliminating trips to the gas station while significantly reducing my electricity bill,” said Tim Werner, SunPower President and CEO.
