Tire maintenance is a very important aspect of car ownership and one that is often neglected. Too many times, people will look at a tire that seems low, but they don’t have a pressure gauge, so they leave it until “next time”. More often than not that next time never comes, and they end up with unevenly worn tires, decreased performance and bad gas mileage.
With the introduction of the new Nissan Altima, Nissan brought the world Easy Fill Tire Alert. This system uses the internal TPMS sensors to tell the owner when the tires are at their optimal pressure with a quick honk of the horn. No more guessing, no more gauges. We think the system is genius, and we aren’t the only ones. This tech has been named as one of the six finalists for AOL Autos 2012 Technology of the Year Award.
We believe that this piece of technology is the kind of innovation that keeps the automotive world moving forward. It is simple, elegant and it makes better use of the tools and technology already built into the car. We wish every new piece of convenience or safety tech could be implemented without the addition of hundreds of dollars of new equipment.
We wish Nissan and the new Altima the best of luck. You have our vote. The winner of the award will be announced on January 9th at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
