The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Monday said it is opening an investigation into 30,000 older Toyota Camry hybrids over complaints of braking problems, reports The Detroit News.
According to the agency, a total of 59 complaints have been received for intermittent loss of braking in 2007-08 Camry hybrids, including two crashes.
The complaints all allege repeated incidents of delayed braking or increased brake pedal effort. About 40% of the incidents occurred at speeds of 40 miles per hour or more.
“The complaints show an apparent increasing trend, with over 55% received within the past eight months,” NHTSA said in documents opening the investigation.
