The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating nearly 400,000 Hyundai Sonata cars for reported complaints of rusting, The Detroit News reported.
NHTSA has opened a preliminary investigation into 393,000 model year between 2006-2008 Sonatas after receiving six complaints alleging rear suspension control arm failures related to rear subframe rust in 2006 Sonatas.
According to Hyundai Spokesman Miles Johnson, the company is working with NHTSA.
Johnson said: “It is too early in the process to draw any conclusions about the allegations, and no safety-related defect has been identified, but Hyundai is cooperating fully to respond to NHTSA’s request.”
“Hyundai will, of course, take any actions necessary to ensure the safety of our customers if the information gathered during the investigation indicates that action is appropriate,” Johnson added.
