It has taken many years, but now the US again has a sporty focus for sale with the Ford Focus ST. Now on the other side of the pond, there has always been a sportier RS variant. Word has arrived via Auto Express that the newest car to wear the RS badge will pump out a stupid-high 350 horsepower and be fitted with an E-diff to get that power to the road. That will be needed, as this Focus will still be front-wheel drive.
The engine is rumored to be the new 2.3 EcoBoost engine that may be bolted into the next Mustang, and three pedals will likely come as standard. There is talk of putting Ford’s PowerShift DCT transmission in as well, but engineer’s are worried about excess weight
We are huge fans of hot hatches, but pouring that much power into the front tires seems like a stupid idea. We will take two please. Of course, if history is anything to go by we will not see the RS on this side of the Atlantic, but really the ST is a great car, and we are happy to have it.
