It appears the Honda CR-Z sport hybrid has taken the automotive world by storm as aftermarket companies are creating modified versions left and right. Of all of those aftermarket builders, there is no Honda tuning outfit more famous than MUGEN. In the past, many MUGEN cars have been factory supported and sold by dealers and that seems to be the plan for the upcoming CR-Z MUGEN.
Still in its teething phase, the CR-Z MUGEN reportedly makes 15 percent more power than a pervious “Stage 1” prototype and does so via a supercharger. MUGEN has also stripped away 50kg from the CR-Z which will surely increase performance and economy. Yes, this European model may be fast, but it is still a hybrid and economy is a priority.
“Early fuel consumption tests have also been encouraging,” says Colin Whittamore from MUGEN Euro. “We’ve retained the three driving modes from the standard car and economy ranges from 50+mpg in ‘eco’ mode to mid-30 mpg when tapping into the supercharged power in a special ‘MUGEN’ mode.”
