An automotive industry authority, Motor Trend Magazine, recently announced their coveted ‘Car of The Year’ award for 2012. Taking home the top spot was the redesigned Volkswagen Passat sedan, built in Chattanooga, Tennessee. With its larger interior, revised suspension, Volkswagen build quality and plethora of engine and transmission options, there could easily be a Passat for any and every type of driver. It is also the only midsize sedan to offer a clean diesel engine: the 2.0 liter TDI. When matched to the six speed manual transmission, the TDI Passat can muster almost 800 miles on a single tank of fuel.
“Chassis, steering, ride, and handling all are tastiest within this segment,” said Motor Trend editor-in-chief, Angus MacKenzie. “It’s in this category the bigger Passat really demonstrates its engineering excellence.”
“Volkswagen is extremely proud to receive this honor,” said Jonathan Browning, President and CEO, Volkswagen of America. “This recognition from Motor Trend is a testament to the engineering integrity of the Passat and validates our strategy of providing a US-built, German engineered mid-size sedan at a price in the heart of the mid-size segment.”
