At the upcoming Paris Auto Show in September, Mitsubishi Motors will showcase the next installment of its newly established brand vision. Based on the third generation Outlander, the soon-to-be revealed SUV will follow suit with the automaker’s recent debuts and feature an electric vehicle assist. The Plug-in Outlander will be innovative in more ways than one as it will offer up something most hybrid enthusiasts have trouble getting: driver choice.
According to Car and Driver Magazine, the Outlander Plug-in will be able to take three forms. Not only will the SUV have the ability to operate in fully electric, zero emissions mode but its twin electric motors should allow for both parallel hybrid and range-extending operations. Similar in practice to the Volt, the Outlander will use its two electric motors to operate both the front and rear wheels to keep in fashion with its SUV lineage. Official specifications have yet to revealed but more than likely, the Mitsubishi Plug-in will be more of an around town hypermiler than a mud-slinging off roader.
