Mitsubishi is currently in the middle of launching their full electric i-MiEV on a global market but that isn’t stopping them from planning ahead. Not to long ago, the brand announced a switch in its priorities in order to produce more green vehicles and they’re next one is slatted to launch in 2013. Instead of being a car like the new i, the next zero emissions Mitsubishi will be a light duty truck which, according to an Automotive News article, should work side-by-side with an upcoming Outlander plug-in hybrid. Once that vehicle is released, it will pave the way for other EV installments that should fill an entire model line by 2016.

When the truck launches, it will be targeted at workers such as farmers and contractors. For that reason, Mitsubishi is looking to keep costs down as much as possible. After government rebates, the EV could cost under $20,000 which is less expensive than the i-MiEV. That car, which is getting ready to launch in the U.S. market next month, has been on sale in Japan since 2009. That rather large time gap might mean that the brand could follow suit with their EV truck and wait for an American release.
