Mitsubishi Baja Raider Ready To Defend Class Victory

Today at Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA), the Mitsubishi Raider truck prepared and campaigned by DXR Racing received a rousing send off prior to start of the 2007 edition of the Baja 1000. Dan Fresh will once again pilot the same truck that scored a narrow (33 second) class victory in the 2006 race. The 2007 race on November 12th begins in Ensenada, and concludes on the 16th with a victory ceremony in Cabo San Lucas.

This year's race will be contested on a longer, more grueling course that will reach almost 1300 miles to its conclusion at the tip of the Baja California Peninsula in Cabo San Lucas. In 2006, the Mitsubishi/DXR Racing Baja Raider spent 34 hours, 36 minutes and 44 seconds on the desert course to prevail over the factory Toyota FJ Cruiser (driven by Rod Millen), other factory efforts from Hummer (driven by Baja legend Rod Hall), and import-class rival, Honda Ridgeline. The 2007 race will likely require an effort of over 40 hours, most of which will be driven by Dan Fresh, along a long, treacherous route that will test human and mechanical endurance.

For the 2007 race, Dan Fresh of DXR Racing has improved upon the package that took him to victory in 2006. Said Fresh, “We really focused on improving the suspension performance to improve speed over some of the rougher terrain, and to be able to use larger tires than last year. This will help us move better through some of the ruts that weather and the Trophy class trucks will will have carved.”
