Not only did MINI get a grip at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), but their hottest model also thrilled everybody by showing up topless.
It’s always assumed that once MINI has announced a new iteration of a model that a John Cooper Works version isn’t far behind, and the brand new John Cooper Works MINI Cooper Convertible unveiled at the NYIAS is no different. The same 228 horsepower and 236 lb.-ft of torque as the hardtop JCW make sure your hair gets messed up even faster than it will in the standard Cooper and Cooper S Convertible, while Brembo brakes will haul you down quickly so you can comb your coiffure back into place.
If this version is as fun as the new hardtop, then ragtop fans are in for a treat next month. Prices are expected to start in the mid-$36k range. Add all the extra optional features like HUD, dynamic suspension and six-speed automatic transmission and you’re looking at $40k, give or take a few Benjamins.
MINI has never been shy before about expanding their existing line with variations and upgrades, and the New York International Auto Show’s revelations seem to indicate that they’re not going to be stopping any time soon. As far as we are concerned, this is a good thing. The more MINIs the better.
