Currently, the Mercedes-Benz C300 4Matic is motivated by a port injected, 3.0 liter V6 engine that produces 228 horsepower. In a four-wheel drive sedan that weighs nearly two tons, acceleration is far from breath-taking especially given the car’s asking price. For the upcoming 2013 model year, the engineers at Mercedes will attempt to remedy the issue by transplanting a new heart into the C300 4Matic that should not only return better acceleration but superior fuel mileage as well.

The powerplant to find working duty under the hood of the 2013 car will be a 3.5 liter direct injected V6. Borrowed from the C350 and E350, the 4Matic version will be slightly detuned to produce 248 horsepower and 251 lb-ft of torque. According to Car and Driver Magazine, the sedan will feature both an Eco mode and start/stop feature to increase efficiency. Given that the older 3.0 liter could only muster 18 mpg in the city, the 2013 C 4Matic should managed to break the 20 mpg mark.
