Volvo has a strong history of great off-road wagons that started with the introduction of the V70 Cross Country in 1997. The predates even the Subaru Outback, which didn’t become a stand alone model until 2000.
Now Volvo has taken this heritage, slathered with a new design, and has presented it as the Concept XC Coupe. Much like the Audi Allroad Shooting Break that was also revealed at Detroit, the new Volvo concept is a sleep off-road wagon with only two doors and a hatch. While the Audi looks good, the Volvo has that perfect blend of sexy and practical that only the Swedes seem to have mastered. In a word, it’s stunning.
We are not sure if Volvo would actually produce a two-door crossover, but aside from the 21-inch wheels this concept looks essentially road ready.
If this is really where Volvo is taking its design for future models, they have a real chance to make some conquest sales on appearance alone. If you don’t believe me, just look through the gallery below.
Volvo, if you are reading this, please make this. I need a replacement for my old Subaru Outback, and this looks like it’s perfect.
