McLaren stunned the world with its F1 super car. The car was so impressive that people still hold it as one of the greatest cars in the world, decades after it was first introduced. McLaren’s recent car, the MP4-12C was equally impressive, but played in a different car arena populated with machines from Ferrari and Lamborghini.
McLaren is now getting back to the roots of the original F1 and is working an a world-destroying supercar. At this year’s Paris Motor Show, we have been introduced to the P1 Concept. This is the design study that gives an idea about the next king of the McLaren throne.
This orange and black monster looks as if it was styled by the Dark One himself with its deep creases and metallic sheen. Underneath all those curves lies a heart of pure carbon. Both the monocoque and body panels are hewn from the composite material, and the boys from Woking have even built-in a carbon fiber safety cage as part of the monocoque shell. They are calling it the “Monocage”.
All of this carbon is being used to keep weight to a minimum, in much the same way the original F1 chased lightness as a priority. We don’t have much information on potential powerplants, but rest assured, the numbers that this car produces will be top-of-class.
